Day 17-Our Goals and Our Hearts

Tonight’s study I saw so much in the passages I read but I don’t even know if I could express it all in words but I will do my best. Let’s start with the passages in Romans that really stood out.

Romans 2: 6-7

He will repay each one according to his works : eternal life to those who by patiently doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;

I looked up this word patience here in the strong’s concordance and I was amazed at the meaning.

Patience- cheerful or hopeful endurance

Yesterday I was learning about works verses faith. I find the correlation between that message and this one to be very cohesive. Not only are we to live by a faith that is constantly in motion but we are to live a life of patiently (cheerful endurance) doing good. Running the race with a cheerful heart of endurance. Another big thing here were supposed to live in cheerful endurance while seeking glory, honor and immortality. Lets look at the definitions of each of these:

Glory- dignity
Honor- value
Immortality- sincerity

Wow those are some huge things to seek after! I looked up seek in the strong’s and it said the definition was to desire, endeavor and enquire. So we are to live a life of faith in perpetual motion desiring and endeavoring after a life of dignity, value, and sincerity. Man that gives me such a new perspective on goals and vision for this life. Makes me think about our life here on this planet and what our purpose is in a new way.

The next verses I read are also in Romans.

Romans 2:15-16

They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts. Their consciences testify in support of this, and their competing thoughts either accuse or excuse them on the day when God judges what people have kept secret, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus.

A few things here first “their competing thoughts either accuse or excuse them”. Wow our thoughts will either accuse us or excuse us and in the next verse we learn that on the day of judgment the secrets of our hearts will be revealed. God judges what we have kept secret often our thoughts that very private part of our life that we don’t share with others is our secret. I know there is a verse in the bible that talks about our thoughts more it says that “God knows our every thought”.

I looked up the word thoughts in the strong’s and it says that it literally means reasoning or our conscience. No wonder He says we need to have the law written on our hearts. Our hearts are a huge part of our thoughts and our conscience. This verse makes me want to reflect more on what is written on my heart. Defiantly going to do some self reflection for that one.
